How to grill with charcoal

This Texan’s gotta brand new grill!!!!!

I moved to North Carolina from Texas in 1995.  I had never seen a gas grill before moving to NC.  I have really been wanting a charcoal grill for several years.  My husband and I were in our “fav store” Lowe’s and I decided this was the day for me to buy my charcoal grill.  So off we go armed with everything we need for GRILLING TIME!  Next stop Fresh Market, (NC’s Whole Foods) for something to cook!

My husband and my son were so sweet to put the grill together.

Finally put together, we’re ready to start grilling!

The best charcoal briquets are a must have!  I love Stubbs, took this picture on Instagram.

My son Andrew is so good at putting the charcoal in the grill and stacking it just right.  My next purchase will be a Chimney Charcoal Starter.

Andrew lights it up!  Yeah GRILLING TIME!

Andrew is in charge os soaking the wood chips, which gives the food a great smoky flavor.

Yeah!    It smells amazing, (sorry no scratch-n-sniff). Instagram photo!  See my post on Instagram here!

How to grill with charcoal, Foodie Friday You’ll know when the charcoal briquets are ready when they are all white like this!

Charcoal is perfect and ready for the ribs, chicken, and steaks.  I love this Stonewall Kitchen rub.

These ribs have been covered with the Stonewall Kitchen rub.  I place them in the refrigerator to marinade for as long as I can.

This is one of my FAV BBQ sauces.  I buy it at our Fresh Market, which is a store in NC much like Whole Foods.

We love to cook ribs, they are much easier than you think so give them a try.

How to grill with charcoal, Foodie FridayChicken and steaks are amazing on the charcoal grill.  They have a completely different taste than on a gas grill.

See that smokey flavor.  Yummo, can’t wait to eat.

I’m so happy…It’s the small things, right?…

I hope you give “grilling” a try and see for yourself just how much fun it is and how amazing your food will taste!

Foursquare and Living on the Bliss, explanation??

June 27, 2012 by

Do you Foursquare?  I said Do you Foursquare???  Most people are like, what’s that.  Foursquare is an App on your phone where you can “check in” to any place that you visit and get information on that place or find places to go visit.  Example, a restaurant, store, monument, facility, or the middle of no where, etc.  You can +add any location you want & make it a Foursquare check in spot.  Example:  I started by adding Bliss Designs my company as a check in place.  My husband is obsessed with Foursquare and added My Blissful Home, so the rest of our family started adding, My Blissful Patio, My Blissful Golf Cart, My Blissful Kitchen, My Bliss Front Porch, My Patio Bliss, My Blissful Firepit, and so on and so on.  So the reason this Blog became ‘Living on the Bliss’ is we are literally “Living on the Bliss”!!!

I have shared some of my Blissful Front Porch and other Blissful places of my home.  I’m going to share with you how I put together the My Blissful Patio, and all the colorful pots and plants we added…  Ready???

I started by of course, shopping at Lowe’s Home Improvement, where else??

Living on the Bliss

We shopped….

Living on the Bliss

We shopped again…

Living on the Bliss

We shopped some more…

Living on the Bliss

So I decided not to buy any new pots for the plants but to dig the pots we already had, and had been hiding from our neighbors because they were “rechid” as my teenagers call it.

Living on the Bliss

So first we started out with all new soil.. We bought new potting soil and “Black Kow”, cow poop, sorry I promise I wore gloves and washed my hands when I was finished, REALLY!!  Mixed in some soil conditioner also.  I took all the pots into the backside of our lot and started getting crazy with the spray paint.  I bought bright yellow, orange & green.   I just took my time and sprayed even slow coats of spray paint.

Living on the Bliss

Black Kow, makes everything grow!

Living on the Bliss

I found pots I forgot I had…  I placed them on a painters plastic and elevated them on whatever I could find.

Living on the Bliss

Living on the Bliss

I decided to paint this iron plant stand I forgot I had.  It’s so cute!!

Living on the Bliss

Much better,

Living on the Bliss

I had already painted these plant stands so I just changed out the pots with some I had painted..

Living on the Bliss

Better right????

Living on the Bliss

I planted all the plants after the pots dried.

Living on the BlissI think they turned out great.  I planted a large variety of plants this year and I really like that.

Living on the Bliss

We added this great Trellis and planted plants that will eventually grow and climb up the sides and over the top.

Living on the Bliss

 Can’t wait until they grow….

Living on the Bliss

We found this amazing Palm Tree at Lowe’s… Love the tropical feel it brings to the patio.

Living on the Bliss

WHALA…..”THE BIG REVEAL”

I’m so happy how it all turned out.  Comment and let me know what you think…

Recipe for Salsa, (Texas Salsa)

June 25, 2012 by
Filed under Cook, My Blissful Kitchen

Cooking is a passion of mine, I’m a confessed Foodie!  I going to be sharing a recipe that I love to make and make frequently.  Making fresh salsa is something I really enjoy doing, I’m not sure if the best part is the eating it or the copping of all the colorful ingredients.  My family really enjoys Mexican food so salsa is something I make a lot.  Try it, it’s very simple and Delicio!

 Salsa recipe, Texas Salsa

TEXAS SALSA

5-6 ON THE VINE TOMATOES, diced

1/3 cup CILANTRO, roughly chopped

1-2 JALAPEÑO PEPPERS, seeded & finely chopped

2 GARLIC CLOVES, finely chopped

1 small VADALIA ONION, diced

1/2 HOTHOUSE CUCUMBER, seeded & diced

1 LIME, juice of 1/2

SALT & PEPPER, to taste

Place diced tomatoes in a strainer to drain excess juice in a bowl.

Place all ingredients in a large bowl & gently toss.  Season with salt & pepper is desired.  Serve with fresh tortilla chips.

Homemade tortilla chips can be made by cutting corn tortillas into 4 pieces and spray with Pam, & salt & pepper.  Bake at 350° until desired color and crispness is obtained.10-15 min

Enjoy!
