What takes a lot of abuse and looks bad all over? This…
This poor guy used to have 8 tufted buttons on the top where the seams meet. My children, when they were small and rowdy (WERE?), loved to jump, crawl, sit, bounce, rest their stinky toes and eat on this leather ottoman. We had it in our family room and one day I looked at it, no I mean REALLY looked at and I was like, man that things gotta have a face lift. So I decided to reupholster/recover it best I could. I took a trip to the “faux” leather store! It was really easy to do.
First step was to lay the fabric upside down on the ottoman and pin it to fit. By the Way, I paid $10 for the “faux” leather.
Using my long quilting (Don’t go there! No, I Do Not Quilt, I just like these type of pins), I pinned the fabric to tightly fit the ottoman. By doing it I will know exactly where to run my seams when I sew the fabric.
See how tightly it is pinned!
Then I went to my 23 year old Bernina Sewing machine that I would never, ever give up in my life!, and sewed the 4 corner seams. It’s a good idea to use a “jeans or leather” needle and to go back over the seam several times.
I added several layers of batting to even out the top and make it nice and rounded. Remember all the years of abuse!
Now I must trim the seams to reduce some bulk and turn it right side out. Place it over the ottoman.
I now get my industrial stapler and work around the whole ottoman and staple to the frame on the underside.
Wahla… better right?
I decided to move this to my master bedroom when we bought new furniture for the family room. So here’s a picture of his new spot in my home.
Another picture, with the new lamps, a coverlet added and I’m always moving those pillows around to keep things fresh!
Later I’ll talk about my need for new draperies in this room!
Thanks for dropping by my blog, I love sharing with you!
Living Happily Ever After,
I have decided to give you a glance at a few of my future blogging posts I have planned. I have so many ideas, do so many things with my family, I feel like I could fill up a year with things to do. Here’s a few…
This is an leather Ottoman that we have had for quite some time. As you can see there have been many a stinky feet propped up on this baby. I will make it slightly better by recovering it.
I will show you how we built this amazing patio. Our whole family worked on this. It’s one of our favorite things about our home now.
These are the outside light fixtures on my home. I hear you thinking, man those are really ugly! I have wanted new ones, but I realized I could fix these up good a new. So I did…
I recovered these red cushion because the sun faded them so bad. What a job. And yes, I’m quite the seamstress!
My husband, Yoga Man as we call him, decides he can DIY a dead tree. Turned out pretty good and will later become something to amaze you!
Here’s a video of him scarring us to death!
This spring I decided I needed to do something with these… I’m working on it..
My front door needed a major face lift. Picking the new color was really easy. This is before… You’ll have to come back to see how it turns out!
Ok I’ll give you a hint. This is during, after comes later.
Remember the cutting down of the dead trees. We’ll I was thinking one day and had an idea. You’ll have to come back for this one also.
It’s going to be awesome!!!!
This is our patio furniture that we both worked on together. A new Pagoda Umbrella is ordered at Pier 1. Also, we have new slings ordered and are waiting patiently for them… “WHERE IS THAT FEDEX GUY!!!” All caps mean I yelling..
I’m really enjoying my inner Martha side of me. I look at everything differently now. Not how I can replace something with a “new one.” Now I think how I can take something old and try to make it look better or make it into something useful. My hubby really helps me out when I need a hand with doing the dangerous stuff like, running a chain saw, reaching something taller than 5’2″, and he keep me from getting electrocuted to death.
SO..go dig thru your garage and find an old “something” and make it new! Comment on this post and let me know what your working on.
Living Happily Ever After,

Living Happily Ever After,
High Point Market in North Carolina is an amazing Disney Land for anyone in my industry. It is overwhelming, exciting, time consuming, educational, exhilarating, fun, tiring, inspiring. Your tired when your leave but your so excited about all the amazing new products you’ve just been exposed to. Here are a few of the gazillion photos I took to give you a sneak peak into my day at market.
This is the famous Jonathan Adler’s showroom. Truly beautiful, inspiring products. Pillows as wall decor, you gotta love it! I do…
Like myself these rugs are not photogenic, they are truly unique and they make you want to sit on the floor!
This Italian sofa is actually a sleeper sofa, I know right? You have to see it to believe it.
This company had one of the most beautiful showrooms. This is for event planners, which by the way I have a great friend that’s an amazing event planner Deborah Davis with Social Butterfly, check out her Facebook page here and contact her.
This amazing bed is beautiful right?… well keep going, that means scroll down..
Great for storage or playing hide and seek!!
Not only is this chair unique, beautiful, charming, stately, it’s also very cozy and comfortable. Think I’ll go sit down…
So now it’s time to say goodbye, thank you again for joining in with me to see how wonderful the design business is. I got to spend the day with my charming husband who I adore, and get all inspired and ready for tomorrow!! Another day at market.
Living Happily Ever After,
Now that I’m officially a Blogger Blogging I think I would also like to become a DIY’er doing especially magnificent “Do It Yourself” DIYing. Having an official title can be so stressful for a girl. I’ve always been know as “Crafty” and “Creative” so as I read the oodles of blogs I subscribe to, because I’m addicted to blogs, I feel my inner creative side wanting to do something to fix something. So I decided I would start with my front porch.
My front porch has always been my favorite place at my home to sit and enjoy the outdoors, it’s covered which means it’s an area we can sit when it’s raining and when it’s cold, as we have a heater we stoke up to keep us toasty warm. Here’s a before photo, sadly everything is covered with yellow pollen and dust.
My husband “Yoga Man” as he’s called, was so sweet to help me with the cleaning process. He pressured washed everything and made all the pollen go away! Now everything is so nice and clean and ready to be
Spruced up, DIY’ed.
Now everything is nice and clean. It’s DIY time! My wicker sofa and chairs have gotten a bit sun baked and the squirrels & birds have taken a liking to them. I decided I would try to restore them to the original luster! How do you do that you say? I can hear you! Your wondering “is she going to paint that beautiful wicker furniture and make it look like second hand stuff”? No, the magic is in the can..and the OhLaLa comes later.
I took a little extra time to use my vacuum system to get all the dirt and pollen out of all the nooks and crannies.
I dug into my “crafty” supply of paints and touched up only the areas that my little friends had nibbled on. Amazing how that paint can fix any & everything. Well not everything not “fine lines and wrinkles” like magic facial cream.
The magic is in the can..and the OhLaLa comes later.
I just brushed on the Boiled Linseed Oil and the furniture came to life! Wow I could’t believe the difference. The wicker had gotten so dried out, it needed a little moisturizer!
Can you see the difference, left side no oil, right side oil, “wua-lah!”
I let the oil soak in for about 5-10 minutes and wiped off the excess with a old towel.
Good as new! Now on to the sofa!
Here I am hard at work and my husband thinks he’s a photographer all the sudden.
I have on several occasions almost decided to throw this shabby guy off my amazing porch, but I decided to give him another chance and see how he comes out. Ready?
I think I’ll keep him!
Here’s the big reveal!!
I think it all turned out so wonderful. Just a little elbow grease, Boiled Linseed Oil…and a little OhLaLa…

Living Happliy Ever After,
As I have said in my previous posts, I’m beginning my blogging life and you can join in with me. 2012, Happiness is my new way to handle everything.
Let’s talk about where I came from. Ok if you had met me when I first moved to NC from Texas in 1995, you could have heard my very strong Texas accent and seen my very big Texas hair. Yes I’m a Texan and I get caught saying “fixin'”, and “niiiigght”, “lliiiigght” & “y’all”, but..I don’t ever say “yonder”. EVER! This is a very old, well..not that old, picture of my Mom and 3 brothers, I’m the cute one. 🙂
I love Texas things and I would like to share a few with you.
These are one of my favorite Texas things! These are true Texas Cowboy boots I purchased in Hillsboro, Texas about 19 years ago, wow that sounds like a long time ago. They are like wearing a pair of house slippers. I’ve had them re-heeled once, actually just this past month.
They go with everything & I LOVE THEM!
Let’s talk Texas FOOD! I’m a big foodie, I love to cook (in my high heels, check it out here), but mostly I love to eat. Not girly food, cowboy food. I love The Pioneer Woman because she lives life to the fullest and loves her Marlboro man, her children, her home and mostly her food! Most Texans eat BBQ, Whataburgers, Chili, Mexican Food, and good ole’ Steak & Potatoes. Everytime we go to Texas the first stop is Whataburger! These are the best hamburgers on the planet!
Enjoy these pics of REAL TEXAS FOOD!
BBQ, Yummy Ribs! Are you hungry yet?
Everything is Bigger in Texas , YeeHaw! I say that too…
There are many things Texas to do in Texas.
Remember the Alamo? This is the school field trip of choice!
Ever been to a real Rodeo? Lots of food, beer, chaps & cowboys!
Walked the Fort Worth Stock Yards? Just lots of beer!!
If you go to Texas make sure you go to Billy Bob’s Texas, the World’s Largest Honky Tonk! Dance the night away!
Last but not least the Dallas Cowboys!!! You may hear us yelling at the TV when the play!!
Don’t Mess with Texas! Y’all…
